The Brazilian government reportedly fined Apple BRL 12.275 million (roughly Rs. 18 crore) for not including a charger with its iPhone models. A day before the Cupertino firm is expected to unveil the iPhone 14 lineup, Apple was ordered to stop selling iPhones without included chargers in the country, according to a report.
Reuters reports that Brazil's Justice Ministry has ordered Apple to stop selling iPhone 12 and newer models without a charger. The ministry has also stated that the exclusion of the charger "deliberate discriminatory practice against consumers", and that the iPhone was lacking an "essential" component.
According to the report, Apple was fined BRL 12.275 million (roughly Rs. 18 crore).
Apple removed chargers from the iPhone 12 in 2020 to reduce carbon emissions. The Justice Ministry reportedly rejected these arguments, saying there was no evidence that excluding a charger protected the environment.
Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 14, 14 Max, 14 Pro, and 14 Pro Max on Wednesday. The 'Max' models have larger displays than the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro. Apple's iPhone 14 lineup is expected to differentiate between Pro and non-Pro models in hardware.
